Things To Do
Nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Black Mountains lies a haven for adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike. From hiking along scenic trails to exploring hidden waterfalls and pristine lakes, there's no shortage of adventures waiting to be discovered. Thrill-seekers can embark on mountain biking excursions through rugged terrain, while those seeking tranquility can indulge in peaceful moments of birdwatching or simply soaking in the majestic mountain views.
Walking & Hiking
There are so many walks, too numerous to mention. Look out for public footpath signs and explore! From the doorstep wander through ancient woodlands to Glasbury-on-Wye; stroll across Ffynnon Gynydd common and adjacent Maesllwch Castle estates; or hike up to the Begwyn Hills. In the surrounding area there are lots of public footpaths, including Offas Dyke and the Wye Valley Walk along the River Wye. Explore the dramatic landscape of the Black Mountains where you can hike to the top of Hay Bluff or Waun Fach. Try and find the obelisk which has mysteriously appeared here. Or tackle Pen y Fan, the highest peak in Bannau Brycheiniog.
Water Sports
Canoeing, Kayaking and SUP with launches from Glasbury, Hay and Whitney. We recommend Wye Valley Canoes in Glasbury.
Mindfulness
Yoga, Tai Chi, Mindfulness, Gong baths. Classes are available from Salem Chapel Yoga centre in Hay-on-Wye and Larchwood Studio Hay-on-Wye. We recommend River Flow Yoga which is at the Chapel on the Green in Glasbury with regular classes and weekend workshops. Cold water swimming is possible in the local River Wye.
Bird Watching
Bird watching (we have our very own red kites!). Visit the Red Kite Centre at Rhayader where you can watch them at feeding time and follow this up with a tour around the dramatic dams of the Elan Valley.
Horse Riding
Riding, trekking and hacking in the Begwyns and Black Mountains. Radnor Riding at Clyro and Llangorse Riding Centre are recommended.
Cycling
Mountain bikes and electric bikes are available for hire from Drovers Cycles in Hay and can be delivered to the property for your stay.
Black Mountain Adventures
Black Mountain Adventures are nearby in Three Cocks, where you can access a range of outdoor activities including archery, gorge walking, climbing, abseiling, white water rafting and more.

Hay-on-Wye market is every Thursday morning and other dates throughout the year.

Richard Booth’s Bookshop Cinema is an independent cinema in Hay-on-Wye. There is also Coliseum Cinema on Wheat Street in Brecon.

Theatr Brycheiniog is a modern theatre, arts and community venue in Brecon.
Penderyn Distillery
Penderyn Distillery tour and shop. Penderyn Distillery is the home of Welsh Whisky and produces award-winning single malt whiskies and spirits in the foothills of South Wales.
Hay Festival
The Hay Festival of Literature & Arts, better known as the Hay Festival, is an annual literature festival held in Hay-on-Wye, for 10 days from May to June. There is also a winter festival in December.
Brecon Jazz Festival
The Brecon Jazz Festival is a music festival held annually in Brecon. Normally staged in early August, it has played host to a range of jazz musicians from across the world.

Royal Welsh Show
The Royal Welsh Show takes place in Builth Wells every July. It is a vibrant showcase of Welsh agriculture, culture, and community, blending traditional charm with modern innovation.
